Administration Nightmare

I very recently visited Lanzarote for a short holiday with family, and before departing for Gatwick airport, I realised that I had not booked any travel insurance. It also quickly dawned on me that I had no more idea as to how to book travel insurance as I would to book military kit insurance or any other insurance, for that matter! Luckily, my partner was on the ball as usual and booked us some affordable cover quick-smart, just before the taxi arrived to pick us up. But do I have any idea of what we were covered for? Not a clue. Do I even know how much the aforementioned travel insurance cost? Again, not at all – I simply let my partner pick up the bill and we scarpered off to the airport. This has highlighted to me the importance of pre-planning and keeping on top of one’s administrative duties. The older we get, the more forms we have to fill in. As a child, everything was free and came from the magic place in Mummy’s handbag, whereas as a self-employed modern woman, the admin is endless. What it will be like when I have children of my own and have to keep on top of their health records and dental appointments and school forms and files, I have no idea. In fact I am hoping to keep that knowledge at bay for at least another decade. Some people are naturally good at filling in forms, whereas I am absolutely rubbish. How can a writer be bad at filling in forms, I hear you ask? Well I’m not actually sure, but I assure you I am. Terribly bad. I think it comes from a lack of common sense. Note to self: must do better.
